I’m Sam, a photographer and writer based in Saigon, Vietnam.

I’ve spent the last ten years shooting street photography: Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Dubai. Most days, though, I’m a few streets from home. Saigon is the most photogenic city I know, and I still haven’t run out of it.

HOW I SHOOT

No plan, no shot list. I walk until the city suggests something. The psychogeographers called it the dérive: the drift. Everything on this site was made on foot and unstaged, usually within arm’s reach of a stranger. If someone’s smiling in the frame, it’s because they smiled at me first.
